History
Keen gymnast and boxer Joseph Pilates (pronounced PIH-LAH-TEES) had a life
long interest in body conditioning. Bringing together
eastern and western styles of exercise, he formed his
own revolutionary physical workout. He strongly believed
that the entire body should be conditioned for overall
health and well-being. The exercises he designed were
to challenge the whole body through shapes and sequences
to correct alignment and balance.
